What to Expect When You're Reading Pregnancy Books... Hidden Agendas!

So I was continuing to read "What to Eat When You're Expecting" last night and I felt myself getting more and more discouraged.  The "Best Odds Diet" as proposed in the book just seems totally impossible.
I'm not a big eater, I weigh 105 pounds (and have since I was 15), how could I be a big eater?  If I wanted to follow the best odds diet I would have to stuff my face pretty much 24/7.

This morning I got up and googled "Best Odds Diet".  There were a lot of other people blogging about this book and the impossible standards set up within the diet.

Most bloggers agreed that it is simply too much food and too much organization for pregnant woman to follow through with (especially given everything else a newly pregnant woman is going through). I particularly liked this blog entry.  It's actually a review for another book, but goes into some details about What to Eat When You're Expecting too.

I'm glad that I went through this actually.  I was ready to treat this book, and likely any other, as gospel.  Now, I'm a little more skeptical.

I'm still going to incorporate the power foods into my diet a little bit more, I'm still going to read other books and try to figure out what works best for me (and us).

Below is a photo of a journal that I covered in some of the felted sweaters I got last week.  This is going to be my food journal.  I need to figure out what I am already eating enough of, and what I need to work on.  You can see a little bowl of dried apricots too.  See, I'm already eating some of those power foods.  Don't tell my husband but I put wheat germ on our pizza last night too.  I sprinkled it onto the tomato sauce before I cheesed the pizza and neither of us even noticed!

I got the pattern to make the covered journal from Betz White's Warm Fuzzies book.  It was super easy and took about 20 minutes.

  1. Yeah, the Best Odds Diet is a load of crap. You are exactly right about it, it's just way too much food. And also the book is like "Don't go gaining too much weight now" and they want you to be eating so much! Haha!

    I love your book covers.
