Movie Night

Hi everyone.  I need your help.

My husband is a busy guy.  He works a day job, teaches at the local college two nights a week and spends one night a week training for our local rural fire department.  He also answers fire and medical calls in between all of his other jobs!

This semester he has classes Monday and Thursday, and fire training on Wednesday.  That means we have Tuesday and Friday free.

Since he's been teaching on Tuesdays for quite some time, we never got to go to the movies for cheap night.  We went a few weeks ago to see Eat, Pray, Love and didn't enjoy ourselves too much.  The movie was okay, but the theatre was busy, the popcorn was cheap and stale.  Don't even get me going on the fake butter (I swear it used to be real butter!).  We also found the volume of the movie excessively loud and didn't end up getting home until 10:30 from an early show.  By the time we walked the dogs and collapsed into bed, movie night out just didn't seem like much fun anymore!

We are still adamant about spending Tuesday nights together, doing something nice and relaxing.  We make a bowl of our yummy airpopped popcorn and curl up with our doggies on the couch.  It's very nice!  Last week we watched Letters to Juliette. I really liked it a lot!

In general though, we never know what is out to be seen lately. We don't have cable and we don't go to the movie store too often either.  We tend to find things online to watch (if you know what I mean) and our source means that no movie is too recent.

Do you have any recommendations for great movies that have come out within the past 6 months?  Is there anything worth seeing out there?  We like romantic comedies (example: Letters to Juliette, The Back Up Plan), comedies (example: Date Night, Couples Retreat, etc.) and dramatic movies (example: Remember Me).  Okay, maybe those are movies that I say we like, I'm not sure Alain would agree, but you get my point.  I also love super surprising scary movies that are intelligent (Sixth Sense, the Orphanage).

What have you guys seen lately, what can you recommend for us?

Help!

  1. Shutter Island was definitely a suspensful, intelligent movie with some great twists and turns. If you haven't seen it, I would give it a try. My boyfriend and I loved it and were still talking about it the next day...enjoy your time with your husband!
